Painting Tips for Pastelbord Paintings
I like to paint acrylic backgrounds on most of my pieces and discovered that acrylics blend better on Pastelbord. This surface has a clay and gesso coating that is pH Neutral and has a fine texture that keeps the acrylic moist and hence helps in the blending process.
Technique – Use a filbert brush as wide as you can handle in the area that you are painting. The brush has to have a substantial amount of paint. I try not to clean the brush in the water unless it is neccesary. If the brush starts to split, it is time to clean it in water. Otherwise, use a lint free paper towel to wipe your brush.
I use an x motion when blending and do it wet on wet. Once I have the background I desire, I use a mop or soft brush to gently remove excess paint or ridges.
The reason for the contest was to test my subscribers. Nobody guessed that the piece was painted with Acrylics. I will paint more pieces with this technique and will offer them as seminar pieces. Looking forward to teaching this new technique!
